Professional Tie Down Roper
Horse(s) name/age: Twisters Enola Gay “Roanie”/ 21 years old | Zans Even Parr “Smurf”/ 25 years old
Breed: Both Quarter Horses
What makes your horses special?: They have both had very long careers. Roanie is a 4 time AQHA Open World Champion, has placed at every major rodeo, she has been the high money winner at the NFR twice, and Tuf Cooper won the PRCA World Championship on her last year. I made the NFR on her in 2004. Smurf has won the AQHA World in the youth, amateur, and 3 times in the open. He is an own son of Zan Parr Bar. Tuf Cooper rides him at San Angelo every year in his matches against Cody Ohl.
What makes your discipline difficult?: Calf horses are not easy to train. I teach mine to work on their own, without being scared or intimidated. The most difficult part of training a calf horse is the time that it takes. It takes years to train a consistent, solid, seasoned calf horse.
13x AQHA World Champion
5x AQHA Reserve World Champion
Prairie & Texas Circuit Finals Champion
Over 50 Quarter Horse Congress wins
What is the most rewarding thing about having horses?: Since I train horses, I enjoy winning for their owners, and then having their owner’s enjoy them when my training is done. I like the stories behind the horses.
